When I was teaching in Japan, I found that some students had some ideas about Australia that weren’t right.  Sometimes this was because they’d seen a news report about something unusual in Australia and assumed it was common.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!
I hope everyone has a great 2010.
Most people in Australia celebrate New Year’s Eve by having countdown parties.  At midnight there are celebrations.
Sydney is particularly popular because they have spectacular fireworks in the harbour.
Then most people have a sleep-in and a rest on New Year’s Day.

Family Christmas

I had a really nice Christmas with my family.
It was hot on the Gold Coast.
We had a big lunch.  We ate prawns, salad, cold pork and turkey and then pavlova (an Australian meringue cake) for dessert.
It was really nice.
My nephew is 2 years old.  He enjoyed opening his presents and playing with his new toys.
