Common Mistakes With Irregular Verbs
One of the difficult things about learning English is the amount of irregular verbs.
Most students learn the common irregular verbs (go, went, gone) but students often make mistakes with some of the other verbs that they don’t realise / don’t remember are irregular.
For example I used to hear students often say:
My friend quitted his job.
The past tense of quit is quit. (Some textbooks teach that quitted is sometimes used in England, but it’s not very common and I’ve never heard a native speaker use it).
My friend quit his job.
Some other examples of common mistakes:
I catched the ball.
I caught the ball.
He teached the students how to use the computer.
He taught the students how to use the computer.
There’s a long list of irregular verbs at the English Page.
