Tropfest
Tropfest is the world’s largest short film festival. It’s held in Australia every year and has been running for more than 20 years.
Hundreds of people submit short films (less than 7 minutes long) and the judges choose 16 finalists.
Then there are public screenings around the Australia.
Last night I went to the screening in Melbourne. It was outdoors in Federation Square. The films were shown on a big screen.
Each year there is a different signature item. This year it was dice. The films can be about any topic, but they have to include something about dice. Usually it’s just a quick mention – one of the actors might have some fluffy dice in his car.
Most of the films were really good and I enjoyed the festival. There were quite a few animated films, including a very fun one about baboons. My Neighbourhood Has Been Overrun By Baboons won second prize.

The first prize winner was also a comedy. Comedy works really well with short films.
